The Great Lakes Initiative (GLI), in partnership with African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries (ALARM), Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), Duke Divinity School’s Center for Reconciliation (CFR) and World Vision International (WVI) offers the Tenth Annual Great Lakes Leadership Institute. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and protocols, this year’s gathering will be held online. Rooted in a Christian vision, this intensive Institute nourishes, renews and deepens Christian leaders in the ministry of reconciliation, justice, and peace. During the five days, two and a half hours each sessions, Institute participants will work together on a theology and methodologies of reconciliation that comes from the cries and hopes of the entire region and our individual communities. The structure of the gathering will offer a worship session, plenary teachings that will set us on a common journey of reconciliation, lament, hope, leadership, and responsibility. Participants will then have a moment to partake of firsthand testimonies of individuals living out and demonstrating the key focus areas of the plenary as well as an opportunity to interrogate and discuss the plenary content in breakout sessions. At the midpoint of the Institute, we will virtually journey together on a pilgrimage to a site of pain and hope where God’s vision for peace and reconciliation is being lived out.
